Joe Swartz has spent his entire life in agriculture. Growing up on the family farm, he has been involved in every aspect of commercial crop production. A graduate of the
Stockbridge School of Agriculture, he has spent the past 22 years in intensive hydroponic vegetable and herb production. During this time he has:
- Produced millions of specialty vegetable and herb plants for sale across the Northeast.
- Engineered and constructed several different greenhouse heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
- Designed, built, and operated numerous hydroponic growing systems, including aeroponic, deep flow/raft, bag culture, ebb & flood, and NFT systems.
- Innovated many production-enhancing technologies, including a nutrient solution heating/aeration system, tiered and bottom heated seedling production, and vacuum-assisted insect contol methods.
Joe has exceptional teaching skills. He has presented hydroponic growing techniques to thousands of students, from pre-school aged children to high school, college level,
and post-graduate level students. He can quickly adjust his teaching to meet his target audience.
